Spring is finally here! With Spring comes flowers, green grass and sunshine but it also brings us my favorite sporting events. Major League Baseball starts with the New York Yankees defending their World Series Championship. All of the other teams will be trying to chase the Yankees. Will this years surprise team be the Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Cubs or the Cincinnati Reds? Will a heavy underdog like the Atlanta Braves or Tampa Bay Rays or Minnesota Twins have a breakout year?
The first Major golf tournament of the year, The Masters is played at beautiful Augusta National with people wondering will there ever be another Grand Slam winner?
The NHL playoffs start and this year will the Pittsburgh Penguins defend the Stanley Cup or will the challengers come from a list that includes, The Detroit Red Wings, San Jose Sharks, Chicago Blackhawks or the Boston Bruins.
The NFL Draft takes place this year over a three day period with all of the teams trying to take the Super Bowl trophy away from the New Orleans Saints. Will the Arizona Cardinals survive the retirement of Kurt Warner and challenge again or will it be the Pittsburgh Steelers, Dallas Cowboys, New York Jets or the Seattle Seahawks with their new head coach from USC? Will Brett Favre return and lead the Minnesota Vikings to the Super Bowl or will he retire? Can Peyton Manning finally lead the Indianapolis Colts back to the big game? Can Peyton's little brother Eli get the New York Giants out of the crowded division with the Dallas Cowboys and the Washington Redskins with their new coach?
Spring is also the beginning of the long college football season with every team having their Spring Game. Can Alabama repeat as NCAA National Champions with their Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram returning? The list of challengers is long every year since everyone is undefeated at this time. Will the winner come from the Big Ten's Ohio State Buckeyes, Michigan's Wolverines, Michigan State's Spartans or maybe the Iowa Hawkeyes or Purdue Boilermakers will finally get over the hump. Can Notre Dame's new coach Brian Kelly lead them back to respectability? Will Florida overcome the loss of Tim Tebow to challenge Alabama or will the Georgia Bulldogs or LSU Tigers finally rise to the top in the SEC? Will the battle for Big 12 supremacy feature the Texas Longhorns and the Oklahoma Sooners or will Nebraska have a break through year?
This is also when the NBA playoffs start and everyone will be chasing the Los Angeles Lakers. Will they repeat or will the Cleveland Cavaliers led by Lebron James overcome the Boston Celtics and win it all? Will the Dallas Mavericks, Atlanta Hawks or Miami Heat get it going at the right time?
Like I said this is the best time of the year to be a sports fan! I almost forgot to add the Kentucky Derby takes place the first Saturday in May with only about 100,000 people in attendance. People love their ponies don't they?
A lot will be decided in the world of sports in the next few months so stay tuned! We will see who will be the champs or the chumps. Soon we will know who will be the NBA and NHL Champions and the question "Will there be a Triple Crown Winner this Year"? will be answered.

Brees finished the night 32-of-39 with 288 yards and two touchdowns and was named the game's most valuable player. The 32 completions tied?Tom Brady's?Super Bowl record. During one stretch of the game the former?San Diego Chargers?quarterback completed 21 of 24 passes.
In one of the greatest quarterback matchups in Super Bowl history, Brees was lightly overshadowed in the pregame by Indy's?Peyton Manning. This was supposed to be Manning's coronation, the second title in the QB's illustrious career. But Brees and the Saints played spoiler, delivering New Orleans its first title in any professional sport.
On that March day four years ago, Brees told reporters about signing in New Orleans:
"I just felt that energy in New Orleans. From the very beginning, there was a genuine feeling that they wanted me there. They believe I can come back from this shoulder injury and lead them to a championship. They were as confident as I am, and that meant a lot."
The confidence was warranted, on both the part of Brees and the Saints. He uprooted his family to move to a city just struck by disaster. He now plans on putting his famiy's roots in the New Orleans area and anticipates raising his family, including son Baylen whom we celebrated with after the game (above, with another picture after the jump), in the NOLA area.
As for the Saints, signing Brees was the best free-agent move in NFL history. And tonight it led to one of the best performances ever in the Super Bowl.

The first intercollegiate football game was between Rutgers and Princeton in 1869. Slowly, more schools took up the brutal sport and in 1910 the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) was formed. Even after the creation of the National Football League (NFL), college football is one of America’s most loved games. Various divisions make up the NCAA Football organization, Division I FBS and FCS, Division II, and Division III according to school size. Additionally, there are regional conferences such as the Atlantic Coast Conference, Big East, Big 10, Big 12, Conference USA, Independents, Mountain West, Pacific 10, Southeastern, and the Western Athletic Conference. At the end of the season, the best teams are rewarded with a chance to play in a prestigious Bowl Championship Series (BCS) game, which then determines who will play in the National Championship Game, for the Number One Team honor. This is the most sought after position in college football. The NCAA also rewards individual players, the highest honor being the Heisman Memorial Trophy, for outstanding player.
